I am always amazed at dog owners who come to a park and just let the dogs run free while they sit and talk on the phone and ignore the dog who may also be leaving piles of dog doo for other to step in.
Please be responsible dog owners.

I am so sorry about the death of the little dog. It really discourages me from going to the park.
The down town park is not worth the trouble anyway.I had to pay $4.00 parking to take my dog to a tiny park with no grass. Most disappointing.

My dog Sully and I visited the Curtis Hixon Dog Park (or Run) about a week before the tragic Shi Tzu killing happened. Thankfully we didn't run into any aggressive dogs. We did, however, run into an excited toddler who ran up to Sully as he was anxiously twisting and turning because of all the attention he was receiving, due to his being the "new" dog. After maneuvering him away from the toddler, we left the dog park.

This is another issue that needs to be addressed -- children younger than 10 playing in dog parks. I don't know why these people felt it necessary to put their toddler in possible harm's way, when there is a perfectly fine children's playground just a few yards away. Yes, they had a dog, but I say, let the dog run free in the children's playground like they let their young child run free in an enclosed, and very small, dog park.

A few days ago I checked out the Davis Islands beach dog park (where I used to bring my dogs years ago) and there were almost as many children, some as young as 3 or 4, in that park as there were dogs...and it was early in the afternoon on a school day.

Until the city stops allowing children younger than 10 to play in in dog parks, I won't be bringing my dogs to any dog city-owned parks. If a big dog can attack a small dog in a dog park, it's only a matter of time before a dog attacks a child in a dog park.
