Dog Park Signage
Previously I wrote about about Dogs Parks Not Being Playgrounds. Since then I had several encounters with people who came to the Lutz dog park with children under 6 years old, despite the park rules being the contrary. I did not understand why, until I looked at all the signs on the gates. Not a single sign mentioned the rules for children. I called the Parks Dept. The staffer I spoke to said that after my call she drove out to the West dog park and saw that it too did not have signs with the rules. Several days later they were posted.

The only dog park we usually go to is Huntington Dog Beach and I don’t recall ever seeing any rules about children. I’ll have to keep my eye out for signage next time we go to the beach.
It’s good to hear that the Parks Dept reacted quickly and got signs up to help notify dog park visitors of the safety rules for children.
Wow what a dog park. Huntington Dog Beach
I see the only rules Huntington Dog Beach are:
1. Maintain control of your dog(s) at all times. Pick up after your dog(s) and dispose of the waste in the trash cans.
2. Under the existing city ordinance,13.08.070, dogs must remain leashed. However, for the past ten years only unleashed potentially dangerous dogs have been cited or removed.
3. ENTER DOG BEACH AT YOUR OWN RISK!”
Do you have a problem with children?
I used to bring my dogs to the Davis Islands beach dog park, but when people started bringing toddlers to the dog park and letting them play in the water amid bounding, excited dogs running and chasing each other, I quit going. I believe at the time there was some sort of signage about bringing children under 6 into the dog park, but I don’t really remember because it’s been several years. I should check it out again because it’s a really nice dog park.
Rohana, It looks like City of Tampa does not restrict on basis of age.
“Children must be under constant supervision.”
