Rise and Shine?
Hobbit continues to defy my understanding of Dog. Most dogs pop out of bed in the morning
, eager for that first meal of the day. Hobbit has always been a heavy sleeper, but lately he’s taken to lingering in his crate. Scott’s alarm goes off and Ella is up with her tail in full flag while Hobbit stays curled in his nest.
When this new behavior started, Hobbit would lounge in his crate until he heard Scott open the back door to let Ella out. He’d take his time getting up… stretch his back, then sit and contemplate the world before strolling to the living room. After a few days of that, he waited to hear his and Ella’s food dishes hit the counter before stepping from his bed. This morning, he didn’t rise until the kibble tumbled into the bowls.

Next, I expect he’ll want breakfast in his crate, served on a tray with a flower and the newspaper. I can imagine him lifting one side of an eyemask and peeking at the breakfast to see if it satisfies.

You make a very good PDA (Personal Dog Assitant)! Fergus and Duncan would hire you!
